Copyright and Permission to Use Classical Conversations Materials

Copyright and Permission Use Guidelines

This article will address copyright and permission of use for Classical Conversations (CC) products, including curriculum, guides, Foundations Memory Work Audio CDs and iTunes files, Copper Lodge Library, Words Aptly Spoken, and other Classical Conversation Multimedia products. It will also address the use of CC materials in schools and non-classical conversations groups.

Foundations Curriculum

The  Foundations Curriculum is designed for use by homeschoolers who are part of licensed Classical Conversations programs. An individual family does not need to be in a licensed Classical Conversations community in order to purchase and use the Classical Conversations Foundations Curriculum in their own home. However, each family using the guide must own their own copy, and the Classical Conversations Foundations Curriculum may not be used in an unlicensed community for which tuition or other fees are collected.

Please reference the copyright page in the  Foundations Curriculum, which is provided here in part: "As purchaser of this book and curriculum, you are welcome to copy and use all of this information for your own students' use only. Families or teachers who join you in this endeavor must also buy this book and curriculum. Please do not copy it for them. If any tuition is paid or fees are earned using this curriculum, you must purchase a license to operate a Foundations program."

Essentials of the English Language Curriculum

The  Essentials of the English Language Guide is also designed for use by homeschoolers who are part of licensed Classical Conversations programs. Based on twenty years of experience, for best results, we ask that families be registered in a Classical Conversations Essentials program before purchasing.

Please reference the copyright page in the  Essentials Curriculum, which is provided here in part: "This book is copyrighted, which means that unauthorized reproduction or sharing of the pages is prohibited. This includes sharing copies with other families or groups, even within your own community. Rather, encourage your friends who would like this resource to honor copyright and enroll their student in an Essentials program. Permission is granted to make copies within your own home for your family."

Challenge Program Guides

Challenge guides are restricted to those families enrolled in a licensed Challenge program and are not available for purchase.

Please reference the copyright page in the Challenge Guide, which is provided here in part: "This book is copyrighted, which means that unauthorized reproduction or sharing of the pages is prohibited. This includes sharing copies with other families or groups, even within your own community. Rather, encourage your friends who would like this resource to honor copyright and enroll their student in a Challenge program. Permission is granted to make copies within your own home for your family."

Foundations Memory Work Audio CDs and iTunes Files

Customers may store CD content or purchased iTunes files on their devices for personal use, but they may not share or make copies of the CDs or iTunes files with others as that would be a violation of copyright.

Copper Lodge Library, Words Aptly Spoken, & Other Media

Classical Conversations MultiMedia products each come with unique copyrights. Please reference the specific product for copyright and permission use.

How to Follow Copyright of Classical Conversations (CC) Materials

The issues of copyright can often be confusing. Following are some key points to keep in mind.

  1. You may make copies of CC materials for your own use if you have purchased the original material. For example, you can make copies of pages from the Foundations Curriculum if you own the Foundations Curriculum. However, you cannot share those copies with another family that does not own their own copy of the Foundations Curriculum.
  2. You can also create your own games, worksheets, videos, songs, etc. that use CC content. You can share those creations with other families that own the original content such as the Foundations Curriculum. However, you cannot sell materials that you create using CC content.
  3. You cannot share your materials that use CC content with those outside of CC (those that do not own the original content). This is why we ask that people not post their CC related content on Facebook, YouTube or other social media sites.
  4. The safest place to share your unique creations using CC content is on CC Connected. This will help ensure that only CC families will have access to this content.

CC Materials Use in Schools and Non-Classical Conversations Groups

We are delighted whenever individuals with private schools, charter schools, and other homeschool groups are interested in using our materials to instruct their students. Schools and non-Classical Conversations groups can enjoy the many excellent products provided by Classical Conversations with few restrictions; however, our program curriculums and guides are developed for the intended use within a local licensed Classical ConversationsĀ® Community and are best suited to serve the home education marketplace. Our licensed program directors and tutors attend a series of training sessions in order to understand how to most effectively present the material to parents and students according to the classical model of education.

Please see additional explanation of the benefits of joining a Classical Conversations Community.
